Montgomery Bank & Trust came into existence on December 13, 1900, with a capital stock of $25,000, a pittance of today's standards but not so for those times.  The president was James P. McNatt, the Cashier J. M. D. McGregor.   The bank was incorporated and granted a state charter in 1926. 

The bank's first home was in a building that earlier had been James P. McNatt's store and later, for several decades, was to house Ailey Hardware Company.  The centerpiece of old downtown Ailey, a two-story brick building constructed in 1906 on the south-east corner of Broughton and South Railroad street, was the bank's home for 64 years.   In 1970, the bank, having out grown its old quarters, constructed a modern and spacious edifice on the northwest corner of South Lee and Gum street, a block removed from the old location.  The bank's headquarters has been there ever since.
 

When MB&T expanded into Vidalia in 1984, banks were not permitted to expand across county lines, so the site chosen for the second branch was the historic Poe place on State Highway 292 (West North Street) in the part of Vidalia that extends into Montgomery County.

In 1996, the Georgia Legislature modified state banking laws to allow banks to expand into neighboring counties; the door was opened for MB&T to build, a stunningly beautiful new East Side branch.  Even before the formal opening of the third branch on June 23, 1997, a two-tiered fountain out front had become the talk of Vidalia, as well as an irresistible lure for some neighborhood children with their bubble-bath potions.

Striving to make banking more convenient to our customers, Montgomery Bank & Trust added it's fourth location in 2000. Our newest branch office is nestled just inside the Wal-Mart Super Center, so no matter what side of town you are on, there is a location to serve you.
 

December 31, 2002 we purchased a mortgage and lending division on St. Simons Island.  In 2006 to meet growing demand in the area, we opened a new full service branch office.  Located at 100 Island Professional Park, the new branch offers drive thru service for convenience as well as an ATM located out side the branch.
